TOYOTA FJ43 1978

This 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 was imported on January 22, 1978 to Colombia, where it was reportedly used by a flower exporter before being stored on the family farm until 2015. The truck was given to its next owner as payment for acreage north of Bogotá and was used thereafter for weekend trips and events including a local Toyota gathering in 2016, from where it was purchased by the seller. A two-year body-off refurbishment followed, with the work including new paint, a custom top, interior refreshment, installation of an air conditioning system, fresh suspension, powered front disc brakes, and more. This FJ43 is now located in Miami and offered with a clean Florida title.

The body was removed from the frame, sandblasted, and repainted in a factory Toyota red during the recent refurbishment. Bolts and other fasteners were reportedly replaced with new items during the process, and a custom-made top with functional visor vents was sourced from Colombian manufacturer MDR.

Steel wheels were refinished and mounted with five new 265/70-16 Hankook DynaPro Mud-Terrain tires. An 8500 lb. Tangkula Classic electric winch with remote control was added to the front bumper and a step was mounted between the rear bumperettes. Additional photos of the exterior are provided in the gallery below.

New grey leather front and rear seats were installed as part of the refurbishment, as were fresh door panels, floor mats, and seat belts. Window glass is said to be original throughout. An air conditioning system was added and charged with R134a refrigerant. The rear passenger/cargo area is home to dual side-facing bench seats and a new load mat.

Power comes from a 4.2-liter 2F inline-six which is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with new pinions, bearings and a power disc. A new water pump was installed in recent months and an oil change was performed in March 2018. The two-speed transfer case is said to engage easily, and the four-wheel-drive system to work as it should.
